IDFM stands for International Development & Financial Management. We were founded in 2016 by John Ellams and Samuel Davies whilst on a charity project site inspection in a rural area outside of Seoul, South Korea. A single day project visit turned into a 3 month organisational restructuring, training and revamp of the local partner, ensuring they were sustainable, compliance with the law, capacitated to manage funds and deliver robust and effective programs capable of securing public and grant funding. After sharing similar experiences with many local charities in the UK as well as across Africa and Asia we concluded there is a huge need to support smaller organisations' ability to develop and grow using the tried and tested strategies we have developed over our careers. Hence IDFM was born as a company to support local and grass root organisations development.
IDFM operates as a low cost subscription based model to ensure we can provide support, week to week, month to month and year to year. To join you simply sign up to our patreon page to get access to a host of past present and future training topics and support services>
Of course, we would be sad to see you go but you are able to cancel your subscription at any time through our partner page on Patreon. If you do decide to leave us please do contact us to arrange an exit interview so we can better understand how best to help and serve your organisation in the future.
You can contact any of our team members and we will be happy to speak to you. If your question is about services and specific training please contact Mr Davies; Samuel.idfm@consultant.com, if you have a technical or billing issues, please contact Mr Elmas; John.idfm@consultant.com you are also more than welcome to email us or use the contact us form to arrange a call back to speak on either the phone (UK based), Whatsapp or zoom call (ROTW).

- Live webinars to cover important topics
- Technical briefs and insights on key topics
- Enrolled in IDFM Sector Working Group (coming soon)
- Digital Fundraising Workshops and step by step training
- 1:2:1 video consultations to work through specific issues & opportunities
- A global grant database with new funds updated and circulated weekly
- A proposal submission bank (ranking good and bad proposals)
- Annual fundraising seminars and seasonal specific development courses
We use a 3rd party subscription provider called Patreon, a reliable and well known site, used to provide exclusive content and support through a membership system. The reason why we have collaborated with Patreon is due to their low fees and built-in financial management system ensuring overhead costs stay low, so we can pass these savings onto our members and ensure we run on a shoe-string budget.
We ensure our digital company has very low overheads and costs so that we do not have to charge high fees to keep our army of employees and corporate offices running. This model is why we are able to boast that we provide more services of higher quality on a wider range of topics for only 1.7% of the cost of other firms. Our model allows us to work project to project keeping costs low and our time flexible, meaning that our base membership is only £30 per month, giving you access to all the support, resources and training needed to help your charity thrive. This cost saving also extends to our 1:2:1 consultations and administration fees for supporting key tasks such as grant writing, annual filings, campaign development and graphic design etc. meaning we can work for you on an hourly rate much lower than a freelancer or employee could provide. We know that to be a successful charity, you must cut costs and squeeze every penny, so please feel free to squeeze us too and where we have time our team can offer some additional resources and advice for free too.
The reason behind our success is in our ability to take the tried and tested strategies of the largest and most successful INGOs in the world, and then scale them down so that smaller charities can also use these tools and strategies- safe in the knowledge that there has been an army of marketeers and development specialists putting in 1000s of hours of effort- to make sure these approaches convert and push organisations forward.
Over our shared careers, we have worked for over 50 different organisations, from the very top of multilateral policy with the United Nations Development Programme all the way down to the grassroots level with refugee, animal rescue and homeless charities (please see information about our past partners and testimonies here).
Partners & History This scope of the charity sector allows IDFM to have a unique insight into what works for charities and what doesn’t. How charities have grown to have multiple offices around the world and how others have failed in their first year. How some spend millions of pounds and fail to address a water crisis whilst others spend a few thousand pounds to empower local people to address their own problems and use market forces to sustain and replicate this impact (now known as the public-private partnership model). With charity work, it is not just how much you are able to raise that determines your impact, but how you think and address the problem which ultimately determines your success.
